History

The Conejo Free Clinic was founded in 1976 and for over forty-five years has been providing legal and medical services to those in the community who may, for a variety of reasons, have no access to care. These are the people who fall through the cracks — they cannot qualify for public services and yet cannot afford them on their own. These are the uninsured, the underinsured and the homeless. These are your neighbors, they are young and old coming from many backgrounds. The Clinic provides such services as medical clinics, immunization programs, anonymous HIV counseling and testing, dental services and legal help with divorce, bankruptcy, child custody and other legal issues.

In 1998, the Conejo Free Clinic moved to its current location in the Community Conscience “Under One Roof” building. The building houses a variety of social service agencies that are committed to making services available to needy residents in the Conejo Valley.

The first annual Women’s Health Fair was offered in 2004. Women in the community had the opportunity to receive blood pressure screening, cholesterol and glucose screening, STD testing, comprehensive lab screening, breast exams, mammogram referrals and information on women’s health issues. Having just completed our fifth year of this well received program, the Women’s Health Fair served over one hundred women in April of 2008. In addition to the one day screening process for the fair, follow-up appointments were coordinated and additional referrals were prepared for issues identified in the screening process. Community response for this program continues to grow and requests are being made to make a similar event available for men in the community.

In 2018, we completed construction on our new state-of-the-art Dental Clinic. We offer patients dental exams, digital x-rays, cleanings, fillings, simple extractions, and anterior root canals.

We have carved out a niche for ourselves in this community; have become the medical, dental and legal “home” for individuals in the Conejo Valley who may not have any other access to services. We have developed a strong reputation for quality service, active patient advocacy and a strong commitment to bringing services to needy individuals.

We are proud of the role that we play in our community and look forward to evolving our operation to stay in step with the needs that we find as we move forward with our goal of connecting people with the healthcare and legal services that they require.

The Conejo Free Clinic is located in Thousand Oaks, just off the 101 freeway at Moorpark,  We serve all of Ventura County , northern Los Angeles County, and surrounding areas.
